The Russian Lunar-25 probe has entered the lunar orbit.

CTOnews.com, August 16, Russia's National Aerospace Group announced today that after two attitude adjustments, the Russian "Moon-25" probe entered lunar orbit at 12:03 Moscow time on the 16th (CTOnews.com Note: 17:03 Beijing time).

The Russian space agency says cameras installed on the lander have taken long-distance pictures of the earth and the moon from space. It is said that all the systems of the "Moon-25" probe are operating normally, the communication is stable, and navigation parameters are currently being measured.

The Russian "Moon-25" probe lifted off from the Oriental Space launch site in the Amur state of the far East on August 11 on a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket. a soft landing is planned for August 21 near the Boguslavsky crater in the lunar south pole.

This is fundamentally different from the former Soviet-era lunar probe: the Lunar-25 probe needs to make a soft landing in the complex near-polar regions, while the latter lands in the equatorial belt.

It is also the time for the country to restart its lunar mission after 47 years, the last of which dates back to the Soviet Union in 1976, when the probe was launched, the Moon-24. The plan for Moon-25 was made as early as the 1970s.
