Google Assistant plans to end support for Wear OS 2 at an unknown time
CTOnews.com, August 17 (Xinhua) according to foreign media 9to5Google, Google will soon end its support for Google Assistant on smartwatches running Wear OS 2 and recommend upgrading to devices running Wear OS 3 or later.
▲ source Google official website, the following media found a string of characters in the Wear OS 2 supporting app, confirming this claim. It reads: "support for Wear OS Assistant is coming to an end. Please upgrade to a new watch that supports Google Assistant and runs Google 3 or later." However, there is no specific date for when to end support, and it is not clear when to discard the product.
On Wear OS 2 (and the previous Android Wear), Google Assistant is supported and updated by Play Store and runs similar to Android phones and tablets. Smartwatches with Wear OS 3 have been moved to applications on the OEM side, allowing applications to be added to the smartwatch itself, supporting voice commands.
As previously reported by CTOnews.com, the Wear OS 3 platform was developed by Google in cooperation with Samsung and was first installed on Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic watches. Wear OS 3 brings many changes in appearance and functionality, including new YouTube applications, updated Google Map, messaging, third-party Tiles support, and broader Google Pay uses.
