CTOnews.com, August 18 (Xinhua)-- 2TB and 4TB SSD manufactured by Western Digital after November last year are said to have a series of data loss problems. A customer in California named Nathan Krum bought a 2TB SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD and filed a lawsuit against Western Digital.

Nathan Krum ordered the $180 SSD at the end of May and found that all the data on SSD had been lost after it was used for a period of time. Nathan Krum applied for a refund, but did not get a full refund.

▲ Tu Yuan Western Digital reported that 2TB, 4TB SanDisk Extreme Portable and WD My Passport hard drives manufactured after November last year have such "data loss" problems. Western Digital has previously released a firmware update to fix these defects, but the actual effect of the firmware update is not good.

Foreign media The Verge previously reported that even SSD with firmware updates will also lose several TB data, "may not be able to solve the fundamental problem."

Foreign media also said that SanDisk Extreme Pro is one of the most popular portable SSD in overseas markets, and TechSpot rated it as the runner-up of the best portable storage product at the beginning of 2023, which means that a large number of customers are affected.

Nathan Krum has already initiated a class action lawsuit, which has already involved "tens of thousands of people". If Western Digital wins the lawsuit, it will face damages of more than $5 million (currently about 36.5 million yuan).
