CTOnews.com, August 21 (Xinhua) it has been a week since Silicon Valley lifted the ban on driverless taxis. During this week, accidents occurred frequently, and ten Cruise Robotaxi suddenly stalled on the road, causing traffic jams. A few days later, a Cruise Robotaxi rushed into the road construction area and got stuck in wet concrete, while a Cruise Robotaxi crashed into a fire engine at an intersection, causing passengers to be taken to hospital.

The California Motor vehicle Administration (DMV) announced a formal investigation into Cruise and said that Cruise Robotaxi's self-driving taxi deployment license may be revoked based on the findings of the video screenshots released by users of the Cruise Robotaxi image source X platform.

However, in response to such accidents, Cruise blamed the ongoing Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco for the problem.

Cruise believes that the large number of people attending the music festival led to problems with the vehicle's "wireless connection" module, which led to the company's inability to arrange the vehicle's route remotely, causing the vehicle to be "out of control" and causing an accident.

The California Motor vehicle Administration has now asked Cruise to halve the Robotaxi of driverless taxis in the city and to operate no more than 50 Robotaxi during the day and no more than 150 at night until the investigation is completed.

Unmanned cars operated by Waymo and Cruise have had a total of 12 accidents in the past six months, causing a total of about 90 minutes of traffic jams, according to official statistics from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Department. CTOnews.com reported earlier that Qiu Xinfu, the prosecutor of San Francisco, California, had previously proposed to the California Public Utilities Commission to suspend the self-driving taxis of Waymo and Cruise, which provide round-the-clock commercial services in San Francisco, but the self-driving taxi business is still in progress.
