CTOnews.com August 22 news, Apple was a class action lawsuit late last year, alleging that the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch has "racial bias" against dark-skinned wearers. A U.S. magistrate dismissed the class-action lawsuit Monday.

CTOnews.com Note: Apple introduced oxygen detection on Apple Watch Series 6 and subsequent watch models, which can measure and display the percentage of oxygen carried from the lungs to other parts of the body, so that the wearer can more intuitively understand and control their health.

The back of the Apple Watch needs to be in contact with the skin for the oximetry app to take accurate readings. Don't wear Apple Watch too tight or too loose, leaving room for skin breathing to help ensure successful oximetry.

Plaintiff Alex Morales argued Apple misled Apple in promoting the Apple Watch by falsely believing that the blood oxygen app could measure blood oxygen levels "regardless of skin color."

He amended the lawsuit in May, citing reports from decades past that similar pulse oximeters were "significantly inaccurate" in detecting nonwhite users.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan dismissed the proposed class action lawsuit for "bias," saying it was inadmissible.
