CTOnews.com, August 22 (Xinhua) Sega has discovered and restored a hedgehog Sonic statue, once a landmark in central London.

In 1996, SEGAWORLD London opened at London's Trocadero Centre in Piccadilly Circus, the largest indoor theme park in Europe at the time. However, due to low attendance, SEGAWORLD London was closed three years later.

In the 110000-square-foot area, stands an iconic hedgehog Sonic statue, with a rotating globe on the mascot's finger. The statue was thought to have been lost in the years that followed. In 2019, however, the statue was found under a pile of paper and boxes in someone's garage.

On Monday, local time, Sega announced that it had found and restored the statue, which will be on display at the Cologne Game Show this week.

Sega officials said: "We are pleased to announce that the iconic Sonic statue from SEGAWORLD London has been discovered and restored to its former glory! don't miss the opportunity to see this game history at the Cologne Game Show more than 20 years later."

According to Sega's latest quarterly results for the year (April 1 to June 30), the company's revenue in the gaming business during this period was 33.7 billion yen (CTOnews.com note: about 1.692 billion yuan), down 2.9% from the previous round and 45.2% from the previous round.

However, Sega said that after this year, there will be "Goddess: strategic version", "Dragon in Man", "Total War: pharaoh" and other works, so game sales are expected to "usher in a strong momentum". To achieve a growth rate of 9% for the entire fiscal year.
