According to CTOnews.com, serialization means that Apple adds a unique serial number to each part and requires a match between the part and the logic board. If you replace it with a non-genuine battery or a battery removed from another iPhone 14 phone, the phone will not recognize the new battery and will disable the battery health feature, which means that users cannot view the remaining capacity and performance of the battery.
Repair expert Ricky Panesar said that to avoid this problem, you must use proprietary software provided by Apple to synchronize the serial numbers of old and new parts. But doing so requires expert microelectronics and genuine batteries. At present, there are not many service providers who can provide this service on a global scale.
Serialization affects not only the iPhone 14 series, but also other Apple products such as Apple Pencil, iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. If the parts of these products are replaced without matching, then there may be problems such as line drawing and shadow on the screen.
This practice has led some people to criticize Apple for limiting the freedom of choice of users and third-party repairers, increasing the cost and difficulty of repairs, harming consumer rights and not protecting the environment.
