According to the Taiwan media "Industrial and Commercial Times", TSMC CEO Wei Zhe Jia mentioned in the previous financial report analyst conference call that their 2nm process research and development is progressing smoothly and is promoting mass production as planned.

In the 2nm process, TSMC had planned to build two wafer generation plants, the first in Hsinchu and the second in Taichung.

But Taiwan media said it would be difficult for TSMC to start construction of its second wafer foundry for the 2nm process this year. The reason is that "TSMC's plant construction plan has not yet been approved, and considering that land for the construction of the plant will be allocated after approval, even if it can be approved as soon as possible, construction will start at the end of this year after the relevant procedures have been completed."

In addition, Taiwan media also mentioned in the report that TSMC's second wafer foundry for the 2nm process also faces challenges in water and power supply. A large amount of pure water is needed in the foundry process, and a stable water supply is essential. They also encountered water supply challenges in 2021, so it will take some time to solve them, but this year, "it is generally difficult to start construction."
