CTOnews.com August 23, the Asahi project recently issued a press release saying that it has unlocked a new milestone in its development progress-- adding the first compliant OpenGL ®ES 3.1 driver for M1 and M2 series Apple Silicon chips.

The Asahi project announced in 2022 that it plans to release a dedicated GPU driver for Apple Silicon chips.

Through reverse code, project members get a driver that is sufficient to run graphical applications and benchmarks. Project members continued to refine the graphics driver, and today released the first OpenGL ES 3.1-compliant GPU driver.

The team said that in order to ensure the stability of the driver, it had been tested thousands of times in a row, and a special test suite was used to test each function of the driver.

After thousands of stability tests, the team submitted an application to the standards body Khronos and passed a 30-day rigorous review.

With the OpenGL ES 3.1driver, applications can display specified images on the screen, and the image content can be processed flexibly through the algorithm.
