It takes 1.5 hours from New York to London, and NASA explores the commercialization of supersonic aircraft
CTOnews.com, August 26 (Xinhua) NASA recently released a blog post saying that it has signed two 12-month contracts with Boeing, Rolls-Royce Holdings and other companies to design supersonic aircraft with a maximum flight speed of Mach 4 (sea level 4900.18 km / h) based on the existing Xmuri 59 QueSST supersonic aircraft.
NASA said in a blog post that it had conducted an in-depth study of the commercial case of supersonic airliners and believed that it could theoretically reach Mach 2-4 (2450.09-4900.18 km / h). By comparison, today's large airliners cruise at about 600 miles per hour, or about 80% of the speed of sound.
CTOnews.com note: NASA spokesman Rob Margetta said the agency is in the early stages of exploration and has not yet begun to develop the aircraft.
Take New York to London as an example, the total distance is 5570 kilometers, and the jet takes at least five hours, while NASA hopes to reduce the time to 1/4, which is expected to be completed in 1.5-2 hours.
