Three abandoned original Tesla Roadster were found in China and are being shipped to the United States for auction.
CTOnews.com Earlier this year, three original Tesla Roadster sports cars abandoned in containers were found in China, which were purchased for research and development by a Chinese car company more than a decade ago, but were sealed after the company went bankrupt.
The cars already had a bidder for $2 million, but the buyer backed out due to insurance and parts issues. The vehicles are currently en route to the United States and are expected to arrive on September 5.
Gruber Motors, which handles auctions and shipping, said vehicles would be cleaned and disposed of upon arrival in the United States, anticipating a bidding frenzy that could "reignite." They believe the cars should be museum treasures rather than road tools because they are the first electric cars to be discovered as "antiques."
