It is reported that the Meta Canadian news ban has little effect on the number of daily active users of Facebook.
CTOnews.com, August 29 (Xinhua)-- Meta blocked Canadian news this month, which has little impact on Canadians' use of Facebook, according to Reuters.
Facebook's daily active users in Canada have remained largely unchanged since Meta blocked Canadian news in August, according to Similarweb, a digital analytics company that tracks website and app traffic.
Data.ai, another analyst firm, said the data showed no significant change in the use of the Facebook platform in Canada in August.
CTOnews.com previously reported that Canada's online News Act requires Internet giants such as Facebook and Google to pay for news content from local media. Meta says news accounts for less than 3% of Facebook feed content and has no economic value for the company.
Before Meta blocked Canadian news, the number of Facebook recommendations on some popular Canadian news sites had fallen by about 35 per cent year-on-year in July and about 74 per cent since 2020, according to Sametimeweb.
