The line, with a total length of about 202 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, spans two major rivers (Zengcheng Zengjiang and Boluodong River) and one bay (Shanwei Changsha Bay). There are 8 stations in Xintang, Zengcheng, Luofushan, Boluo, Huizhou South, Huidong, Shenshan and Shanwei. Among them, Xintang Station and Shanwei Station are existing stations, and the other 6 stations are newly built stations.

Guangzhou-Shantou high-speed railway, which connects Beijing-Guangzhou, Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Hangzhou-Shenzhen, Beijing-Hong Kong and other railway lines, is a key project in Guangdong Province. After the opening of operation, the minimum running time of high-speed trains from Guangzhou to Shanwei will be reduced from the current 2 hours to less than 1 hour.
