CTOnews.com, August 30 (Xinhua)-- shipments of personal computers (desktops, notebooks and workstations) in China slowed to 9.6 million units in the second quarter of 2023, down 19 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest report released by market research firm Canalys. The number of desktops (including desktop workstations) was 3 million, down 19% from the same period last year; shipments of notebooks (including mobile workstations) were 6.6 million, down 19% from the same period last year.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Lenovo still tops the Chinese mainland PC market, but shipments plunged 24% from a year earlier. Hewlett-Packard and Huawei ranked second and third respectively, up 6% from a year earlier. Dell fell the most among the top manufacturers, plunging 52% from a year earlier, and its market share hit a new low in recent years. Apple grew 17% year-on-year, ranking fifth.

Chinese mainland's tablet market grew 8 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2023, mainly thanks to Apple's strong performance. Despite strong promotions by Android tablet makers and retail channels, shipments are still down 5%.

Apple ranks first in Chinese mainland's tablet market, with shipments of 2.3 million units, up 47 per cent from a year earlier. Apple's significant growth was due to relatively weak shipments due to severe supply chain disruptions in the second quarter of 2022.

Huawei ranked second, with tablet shipments up 19 per cent year-on-year to 1.2 million units. Xiaomi ranked third, leading the mainstream manufacturer in terms of growth, which also launched new tablets, with overall shipments surging 53%.

Lenovo ranked fourth, but its tablet shipments plunged 44% due to weak demand in the business sector. Glory ranked fifth, but shipments fell 8 per cent year-on-year.
