CTOnews.com, August 30 (Xinhua) with the retirement of Concorde in 2003, projects to reintroduce commercial supersonic flight emerge one after another. Boom Supersonic recently announced on platform X that its supersonic jet prototype XB-1 has passed the ground test and received an experimental airworthiness certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.

▲ Picture Source Boom Supersoni posted on the X platform Boom Supersonic is currently testing 1/3 of the supersonic XB-1 prototype at Mojave Aerospace Port in Mojave, Calif., the XB-1 prototype is used to verify the Overture supersonic airliner project. After inquiry, CTOnews.com learned that Boom Supersonic is currently conducting the first pre-flight taxiing test of the prototype.

Bill "Doc" Shoemaker, Boom Supersonic's chief test pilot, said: "it is quite appropriate for the XB-1 prototype to make its maiden flight at Mojave Aerospace Port, where there have been more than 50 maiden flights and other major aviation activities. I look forward to testing XB-1 here and building on the achievements of other engineers and pilots."

It is reported that the XB-1 uses carbon fiber composite and titanium alloy fuselage, the improved delta wing has a span of 17 feet (5.2m), is powered by three GE J85 engines, burns sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), has a total thrust of 12300 pounds and a flight speed of Mach 1.7m.
