Gurman: Apple AirPods Pro will upgrade the USB-C charging box, no other hardware changes
CTOnews.com, September 3, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple plans to update the AirPods Pro charging box with the USB-C port during the "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday, September 12, but does not expect other hardware changes to the headphones.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said he believes Apple will eventually add USB-C ports to all its AirPods series, but that the AirPods Pro will be the first headset with a new charging box.
Gurman had previously reported that Apple would release an updated AirPods with a USB-C charging box and that the new iPhone 15 series phones would switch from Lightning to USB-C, but he didn't say at the time whether it was the AirPods or the AirPods Pro.
CTOnews.com has previously reported that iOS 17 will bring some new features to AirPods Pro, but software-based and new hardware-based hearing aids will be introduced in the future. Gurman also said he expects the price of low-end AirPods to fall as USB-C interfaces spread to other products.
