CTOnews.com Sept. 5, Microsoft last week updated its screenshot tool (Snipping Tool), introducing a new navigation bar and keyboard combination in the latest version 11.2307.44.0, and another improvement not included in the update log is the introduction of OCR, which can recognize text in the image and extract it to the clipboard.

The feature, called "Text actions", will be supported by AI and will be expanded to provide richer text manipulation capabilities.

CTOnews.com note: however, the text extraction OCR function of this app overlaps with other applications, which Microsoft has provided in several official applications such as OneNote a long time ago, and there is also a function called "Text Extractor" in PowerToys.

It is not clear when Microsoft will make the screenshot tool OCR available to all users, but it is expected to be pre-installed in the Win11 23H2 update.
