In response to EU regulation, TikTok transfers European user data to a new data center in Ireland

CTOnews.com, September 5 (Xinhua)-- TikTok said Tuesday that it has begun to transfer information from European users to its new data center in Ireland. TikTok also said it was building two other European data centres, one in Norway and one in Ireland.

CTOnews.com noted that TikTok's opening of a data centre in Ireland came as the EU cracked down on large online platforms through the Digital Services Act, which forced TikTok to provide optional algorithmic features for EU users.

TikTok said it was working with NCC Group, a British security company, to audit its "data control and protection, data flow, independent verification and incident reporting". The company also said that only "approved employees" could access the system.

These new data centers are part of TikTok's "Project Clover" initiative, which aims to localize data storage in Europe. This is the equivalent of the US "Project Texas" project, which also aims to allay concerns about data privacy through servers owned by the US company Oracle to store user data.
