CTOnews.com, September 12, according to The Information, the entire construction scale of TSMC's Arizona plant has reached 40 billion US dollars (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 294.4 billion yuan) under the promotion of President Biden, but in fact the factory is more like a face-saving project, with little help to the chip manufacturing industry in the United States.

CTOnews.com quoted the media as saying that after interviewing several TSMC engineers and former Apple employees, they all said that although the Arizona plant produced many advanced chips for customers such as Apple, Nvidia, AMD and Tesla, the packaging still needed to be transferred to Taiwan.

Sources say TSMC has no plans to build packaging plants in Arizona or other parts of the United States, and employees interviewed say such projects are costly in the United States.

Apple chip partner TSMC held its first machine entry ceremony at its new factory in Arizona last year. Apple CEO Tim Tim Cook was there personally, and Intel CEO Kissinger tweeted congratulations.

"to put it simply, even if TSMC's new plant can start mass production in 2024, it is still two years behind 4nm process production," Ben Thompson, an industry analyst at Tuyuan Cook, wrote on his Stratechery blog. "if the plant plans to produce 5nm process, it will actually be four years behind."
