▲ South Korea's Electronic Daily reported that Samsung is working with Microsoft on an "internally generated AI development", while the AI involved in this project, which can handle tasks such as translation and document summaries, will be completed using "GPT-4" and "GPT-3.5" LLM developed by OpenAI. The project is currently in the proof of concept (PoC) phase.

After inquiry, CTOnews.com learned that earlier, Microsoft and OpenAI signed an exclusive license that expressly states:

OpenAI must run on the Azure cloud

When OpenAI provides services to enterprises, it must be provided only on the Azure cloud.

Therefore, if Samsung wants to use OpenAI's LLM to develop its own generative AI, it must work with Microsoft and use Microsoft's Azure Cloud service.

Samsung also recently submitted trademark applications for "Gauss" and "Gais" to the Korea intellectual property Office. In the trademark application, Samsung listed "computer Software for Machine Learning language and speech processing (SW)" and "computer Software for Natural language processing / creation / understanding / Analysis (SW)" as trademark goods. It is also interesting to see whether these two trademarks will be used in this development of generative AI services.
