Node.js 16 announces end-of-life cycle to coincide with OpenSSL 1.1.1 series end-of-support progress

CTOnews.com Sept. 13, the life cycle of OpenSSL 1.1.1 officially ended on September 11, and CTOnews.com had previously reported that officials urged users to "take the necessary action" to get the latest support.

After inquiry, CTOnews.com learned that in order to tie in with the end of support progress of the OpenSSL 1.1.1 series, Node.js officials had previously said that Node.js 16 would end its life cycle (EOL) 7 months ahead of schedule, so Node.js 16 has now ended its life cycle after OpenSSL 1.1.1 announced the end of its life cycle.

▲ Touyuan Node.js official X platform account Node.js team originally planned to end the life cycle of Node.js 16 in April 2024, but because OpenSSL 1.1.1 officially ended its life cycle on September 11, and considering the security risks posed by OpenSSL 1.1.1 within the next 7 months, Node.js developers also decided to end support early.
