CTOnews.com September 14 news, California's strongest maintenance rights bill passed a vote in Congress and Senate yesterday, and was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Under the maintenance Rights Act, suppliers are required to provide parts, tools, maintenance manuals and necessary software support for products sold after July 1, 2021, starting from July 2024.

In addition, products priced between $50 and $99 must be supported for at least three years, while products priced above $100 must be supported for seven years.

CTOnews.com note: the maintenance Rights Act also strengthens enforcement, allowing municipalities to bring it to a higher court without bypassing the state's attorney general.

However, the maintenance Rights Act has also made some concessions and compromises. The pricing of parts and tools is subject to "fair and reasonable terms", requiring unauthorized maintenance suppliers to provide customers with written notice of this fact. and inform the user that the replacement parts used are official channels or third parties.
