TikTok was fined 345 million euros for violating children's privacy protection law.

Investigators point out that when TikTok registers, by default, the accounts of underage users are set to "public", and everyone can watch and comment on videos posted by minors, which will result in children under the age of 13 having access to risky content. In addition, TikTok does not verify that the user is the parent or guardian of the child user through the Family pairing link.

The Irish Commissioner for data Protection (DPC) said TikTok violated a number of EU privacy laws between July 31, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

A spokesman for TikTok stated that it disagreed with this decision, in particular the amount of the fine, and that most of the allegations were no longer applicable because TikTok had taken measures before the start of the DPC investigation (September 2021).
