Hon Hai Group has pledged to double its employees and investment in India by 2024.

Foxconn Group, the parent company of Apple supplier Foxconn, has promised to double its labor and investment in India by next year, CTOnews.com reported on Sept. 18.

In a LinkedIn post celebrating the Indian prime minister's 73rd birthday, V Lee, Hon Hai's representative in India, said the company "aims to double India's employment, foreign direct investment (FDI) and corporate size again next year". However, he did not disclose any further details.

According to public data, Hon Hai Group is the world's largest contract manufacturer and Apple's largest contract manufacturer. Foxconn already has an iPhone contract factory in Tamil Nadu with 40, 000 employees.

In August, Karnataka said Foxconn would invest $600m (CTOnews.com Note: about 4.374 billion yuan) in two projects in the state, including the production of iPhone shell components and chip manufacturing equipment.

Liu Yangwei, chairman of Foxconn, said at the earnings conference in August that he saw the great potential of India and said that "billions of dollars of investment is just the beginning" and that "India will become an important country in manufacturing in the future".

Lee also said it would expand its diversification strategy to include Karnataka and Terengana in addition to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

He also mentioned that Liu Yangwei also wants to participate in the electric car industry in India. "our key components in India are mainly related to consumer electronics." however, he said India will also produce key parts for electric vehicles next year.
