CTOnews.com, September 19 (Xinhua)-- last month, Avanci, the patent licensing platform for the Internet of things for cars, announced that Mercedes-Benz became the first licensee of Avanci 5G, and it is now confirmed that BMW Group has joined the project.

BMW Group has signed a license agreement for Avanci 5G NetLink cars, which covers its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.

At the same time, three licensors, including Deutsche Telekom, have joined the new online vehicle licensing program, and the number of licensors has increased from 58 to 61.

It is reported that the Avanci 5G network connected automobile project includes 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G necessary patents, including cellular vehicle networking (C-V2X), which are essential for the realization of network connection functions for cars. Cellular vehicle networking allows vehicles to connect and communicate directly with the surrounding cars, pedestrians, and transportation infrastructure.

The project was launched in August this year, and 61 companies, including Nokia and Ericsson, have signed the latest licensing program for Avanci, covering the vast majority of necessary patents for cellular technology standards.

Currently, more than 80 car brands covered by the Avanci 4G license have more than 130 million Smart Networked vehicles on roads around the world.

In terms of the fee standard of Tuyuan Pexels, the Avanci 5G online car license platform charges US $32 per vehicle (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 233RMB), and offers a preferential price to the car factory that is licensed within 6 months.

Specifically, automakers that sign a license before February 16, 2024 or before the sale of their first 5G connected car, whichever is the later, will receive a discount rate of $29 per car, subject to other terms of the license agreement.
