CTOnews.com, September 20 (Xinhua)-- Fortnite game developer Epic Games was fined $520 million (currently about 3.796 billion yuan) by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in December last year for "invading children's privacy and inducing them to buy games."

FTC ruled that there was a "dark mode" in "Fortnite" and charged players unnecessary and unwitting fees, announced in March this year that $245 million had been identified out of the 520 million fines (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.789 billion yuan), and had started a compensation procedure.

Epic Games officially launched FortniteRefund.com today, allowing eligible users to submit applications by January 17, 2024, and then calculate the compensation for each user based on the size of the user.

Eligible users need to be at least 18 years old, and the users who apply for compensation can be legal adult players, parents or legal guardians.

In addition, the scope of compensation is from January 2017 to September 2022, and any user can complain about the products purchased in the game. Children can also apply for compensation if they use their parents' credit cards without their parents' knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.

For users who are closed from January 2017 to September 2022, applications can also be submitted.
