CTOnews.com, September 21 (Xinhua) according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global shipments of foldable mobile phones increased by 10% in the second quarter of 2023 to 2.1 million units compared with the same period last year.

Global smartphone shipments in the quarter were 268 million, down 9% from a year earlier, indicating that the collapsible smartphone industry continues to show strong and sustained growth.

In the second quarter of 2023, China shipped 61.9 million smartphones, down 4% from the same period last year, while China shipped 1.2 million foldable mobile phones, an increase of 64% over the same period last year. China currently accounts for the largest share of the global collapsible smartphone market, accounting for 58.6%.

Driven by products such as Huawei Mate X3 Vivo X Fold 2 and vivo X Flip, the foldable market continued to grow strongly in the second quarter of 2023.

In the second quarter of this year, there were five new foldable mobile phones on the market in China, compared with only two outside China.

Citing the agency, CTOnews.com predicts that Chinese manufacturers will continue to expand their influence in the global collapsible mobile phone market in the second half of this year, including the launch of Huawei Mate X5, Glory Magic V2, OPPO Find N3 Flip and one plus Open.
