CTOnews.com Sept. 21, Crystal Dynamics has become the latest game studio under the Embracer Group to announce layoffs. In a news release on Wednesday, the developer of Tomb Raider and perfect Dark said it had laid off 10 employees as part of its internal restructuring.

"Crystal Dynamics made a tough decision today to fire nine brand / marketing staff and one IT employee because of an internal restructuring to bring the studio in line with our current business needs," the company confirmed. "We are working directly with the affected employees and fully support them.

Embracer, which bought Crystal Dynamics from Square Enix last year, said in June that it was implementing a "restructuring plan" that some game studios would be closed and some projects would be cancelled.

The news came after the company said a $2 billion deal with a secret partner, which was later reported to be a Saudi government-funded Savvy Games Group, had failed unexpectedly. Crystal Dynamics said at the time that its current project would not be affected by the Embracer event.

Earlier this week, Embracer fired 26 employees of Beamdog, the developer of Baird Gate: enhanced and Mythforce, which it acquired last year. Embracer closed Saints in the underworld studio Volition last month and is also reportedly considering selling Gearbox, a studio it bought in 2021 for as much as $1.4 billion.
