NASA's Psyche spacecraft, launched on October 5, will continue to fly in space for six years and about 2.2 billion miles.

CTOnews.com, September 25 (Xinhua)-- the Psyche spaceship is scheduled to be launched on a SpaceX Falcon heavy rocket at 10:34 EDT (22:34 Beijing time) at launch site 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in NASA, Florida, according to official NASA information.

CTOnews.com learned from NASA that Psyche's journey into space will last nearly six years, about 2.2 billion miles (3.6 billion kilometers), and then reach an asteroid of the same name that orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter. Scientists believe that Psyche may be part of the core of the star and may be made of iron and nickel metal.

The ore will not be mined, but will be studied in orbit to give researchers a better understanding of the components of the earth's core.

The asteroid Psyche takes about five Earth years to complete its orbit around the sun, and its closest distance to Earth is about three times the distance between Earth and Mars. "this asteroid is only for scientific exploration, not for profit," said the lead researcher. "
