CTOnews.com, September 25 (Xinhua)-- Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, announced today that it has received up to $4 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about RMB 29.24 billion) in cash invested by Amazon to jointly develop a reliable, high-performance basic model and carry out broader cooperation.

According to reports, Amazon employees and cloud computing customers can obtain Anthropic technology in advance and integrate it into their own business. Anthropic also promised to rely mainly on Amazon's cloud services to train its future AI model-including using a large number of proprietary chips purchased from Amazon.

Anthropic will take advantage of the high-performance, low-cost learning accelerators provided by Amazon Cloud Services to train and deploy its future basic models on AWSTrainium and Inferentia chips. For Amazon, the deal marks the latest move to take advantage of the excitement of generative AI.

Anthropic will also expand its support for AWS Bedrock based on the large demand of Amazon cloud service users for Claude, Anthropic's large language model. This will include secure model customization and fine-tuning on services that enable enterprises to use their expertise to optimize the performance of Claude while limiting the possibility of harmful results.

In terms of details, Amazon will make an initial investment of $1.25 billion (currently about 9.138 billion yuan) to acquire a minority stake in Anthropic, and both companies will have the option to increase their total investment to $4 billion later.

Earlier this year, Anthropic received financing valued at nearly $5 billion. Last year, Google invested $300 million in Anthropic.
