YouTube plans to cancel advertising-free Premium Lite subscription plan
CTOnews.com Sept. 26, YouTube currently offers Premium Lite subscription programs in some European countries, which do not include advertising and support background playback features, and are cheaper than their Premium subscriptions.
After two years of pilot work, YouTube finally decided to cut the Premium Lite program. In an email to users, YouTube announced that the Premium Lite program would no longer be available after October 25, 2023.
Tuyuan PixabayPremium Lite program was first launched in 2021 in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden and other European countries, at a monthly cost of 6.99 euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 54 yuan), compared with Premium only lack of offline downloads and YouTube Music benefits.
However, existing Premium Lite subscribers will have only two options: either continue to watch YouTube with ads, or subscribe to a higher-priced YouTube Premium that includes YouTube Music.
In this email, YouTube said that it will provide Premium Lite subscribers with a free YouTube Premium trial period, regardless of whether they have used it before. However, YouTube also pointed out that subscribers need to cancel their Lite subscriptions or wait for their subscriptions to expire before they can try out.
We are writing to inform you that we will no longer offer our current Premium Lite subscription program from October 25, 2023. We understand that this may be a bit disappointing for you, but we will continue to work on different versions of Premium Lite and take feedback from users, creators and partners.
