Apple releases firmware update for Studio Display display 17, built-in camera supports zoom, medium

CTOnews.com, Sept. 27-after months of Beta testing, Apple today released a 17 firmware update for Studio Display monitors. This update includes improvements to the camera that can be used after the user upgrades the Mac device to macOS Sonoma.

The Studio Display firmware can be updated by connecting the monitor to the Mac. Studio Display users can go to system preferences > Software updates to install firmware.

According to Apple's release notes, the update adds support for zooming, centering and manual viewing of the built-in camera in the Studio Display, as well as some minor stability improvements.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Apple has been improving the device since the Studio Display was first launched, but it has been criticized for its poor image quality. As early as April 2022, Apple released firmware to improve the functionality of the built-in camera, improving contrast, color, and overall image quality.
