CTOnews.com, Sept. 27 (Xinhua)-- Jeff Pu, an analyst who studies Apple's supply chain, said in a research report released this week that all four models of the iPhone 16 series will carry A18 chips. The report was released by Haitong International Securities Company, and a copy of the report is available on the MacRumors website.

"We believe that the A17 Pro is a transitional design, and we now expect all models of the iPhone 16 series to use A18 chips based on TSMC's N3E process," Pu said in the report.

Jeff Pu predicts that the iPhone 16 series will carry the following chips:

IPhone 16:A18 chip (N3E)

IPhone 16 Plus:A18 chip (N3E)

IPhone 16 Pro:A18 Pro chip (N3E)

IPhone 16 Pro Max:A18 Pro chip (N3E)

N3E refers to the second generation 3nm chip manufacturing process of TSMC. Compared with TSMC's first generation 3nm process, N3B has lower cost and higher yield. The A17 Pro chip used in iPhone 15 Pro series is based on N3B process.

Given that the iPhone 16 series is still about a year away, and Jeff Pu may only have given the market names for these chips in its own judgment, it remains to be seen whether Apple will actually adopt the names of the A18 and A18 Pro. It is also possible for Apple to name iPhone 16 series chips A17 and A18 Pro, in line with the naming style in recent years.

CTOnews.com noted that Jeff Pu had mistakenly claimed that Apple had given up using solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro series, but he accurately predicted that the iPhone 15 Pro series would be equipped with 8GB memory and that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would have a higher starting price than the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
