EU antitrust regulators respond to rumors that Nvidia is suspected of "anti-competition": no formal investigation into AI chips

CTOnews.com, October 2, according to Reuters today, in response to rumors that "the European Union has launched an early investigation into Nvidia", a spokesman for the EU executive branch replied to the inquiry email of Reuters: "the European Commission has not conducted a formal investigation into the issues you mentioned."

Previously on CTOnews.com: late last month, Bloomberg reported that according to people "familiar with the situation", the European Union is conducting an early investigation into suspected "anti-competitive" abuse in the AI chip market, of which Nvidia dominates.

French authorities launched a similar investigation and interviewed market participants on Nvidia's key role in AI chips, price policy and the impact of chip shortages on prices, sources said.

This follows a recent raid by French antitrust authorities on a company suspected of engaging in anti-competitive conduct in the graphics card industry, which was later identified as Nvidia by the Wall Street Journal. The French competition authority clarified that such raids did not imply an offence but were part of a thorough investigation into the substance of the case.
