Sources say Microsoft plans to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion on October 13.
Thank you, Mr. Air, CTOnews.com netizens, and Daniel Wu for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, October 7, according to foreign media The Verge reported on Friday night, a source familiar with Microsoft's plans revealed to The Verge that Microsoft is preparing to complete its 20-month acquisition of Blizzard for $68.7 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 502.197 billion yuan) on October 13 (next Friday).
However, the exact date will still depend on the attitude of the UK Competition and Market Authority. According to previous plans, October 6 was the deadline for CMA's provisional approval of the deal, and CMA's final decision is expected next week. If there are no unexpected changes at the last minute, Microsoft will successfully complete the deal.
Microsoft and Activision had set a deadline for the deal on October 18, and if the deal could be completed next week, Microsoft would end its 20-month regulatory approval and contention process sooner than expected.
Earlier this month, Tom Warren, a senior editor at The Verge, revealed on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that Microsoft was expected to complete the acquisition within next week. However, in addition to CMA, FTC said last month that it "will continue to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard", which FTC believes may allow Microsoft's Xbox platform to monopolize Activision Blizzard games, while Nintendo and Sony will be excluded.
In the relevant documents leaked a few days ago, FTC said, "the committee has decided that the matter must be fully and promptly resolved in the public interest, so the committee will remit the case for retrial."
