CTOnews.com, October 7, according to Reuters, a senior official in Mexico City said that Tesla's final license to build an electric vehicle (EV) factory in the northern state of Nuevo Leon may be ready in a few weeks, and the local government is starting the infrastructure work required by Tesla.

CTOnews.com noted that Tesla announced plans in March to open a large factory in Nuevo Leon, its first factory in Mexico. Ivan Rivas, Nuevo Leon economy minister, said in an interview that Tesla was considering building a larger factory than originally thought and was still finalizing design, construction and engineering plans. He said the federal government is expected to get environmental approval in a few weeks, when construction will begin.

"I expect it will take a few weeks, a month at the most," Rivas said, adding that production is expected to start much earlier than the 2026 or 2027 reported by the Mexican newspaper Reforma last month, as Nuevo Leon aims to quickly build water, electricity and transport infrastructure.

It is understood that Nuevo Leon has agreed to build a substation, a natural gas pipeline, railway branch lines, roads and water supply and sewage treatment services. Rivas said that these projects can be built before or at the same time before Tesla himself, and will also benefit other companies.
