CTOnews.com October 10, Microsoft today updated Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other productivity applications for Microsoft 365Insider users. In response to the strong request of Excel users, Microsoft introduced a check box function for cells in this update.

Microsoft said in an official blog post that the ability to add check boxes to cells is a customer's primary feature request, simplifying data entry and reducing user errors when dealing with spreadsheets and formulas involving TRUE and FALSE values.

In this update, Excel introduced a new option called Cell Controls in the toolbar insert tab. Currently, there is only one "check box" option, and Microsoft promises to add more options in future updates.

CTOnews.com note: Microsoft has invited Beta channel users to upgrade to 2310 (build 196924.2000) or later to try out the new feature.

All selected blank cells will get a check box that defaults to FALSE, and all existing values and formulas will remain unchanged. In addition, it is worth noting that the check box applies only to Boolean values and blank cells. To place a check mark, click the box or highlight the cell and press Spacebar.
