CTOnews.com, Oct. 10, according to TheElec, Samsung is considering using the droplet hinges it introduced on Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 on foldable laptops to be launched next year.

The droplet hinge allows Samsung's latest foldable phone to fold tighter screens on both sides and reduce creases in the middle of the screen, which works better than using U-hinges before.

However, applying this technology to laptops may force Samsung to make it thicker than before. In addition, laptops are farther from the eyes than smartphones, so there is less need for droplet hinges. CTOnews.com notes that other companies that have introduced foldable notebooks, such as LG Electronics and Hewlett-Packard, are focused on reducing the weight of their U-shaped hinges.

Samsung originally planned to launch a foldable notebook last year, but it was delayed due to weak consumer demand, and the technology giant did not have much market share in the notebook market, the report said.

Samsung is weighing the pros and cons and plans to launch its foldable notebook in the second half of next year, according to sources, when consumer demand will recover. Meanwhile, Samsung is considering buying collapsible OLED panels from Samsung monitors or BOE.
