CTOnews.com, Oct. 11, today, Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon X (pronounced "ex" instead of 10) series of chips.

The series of chips are based on custom Oryon CPU cores, are suitable for notebooks and are designed to compete with Apple's custom chip Apple Silicon.

Qualcomm points out that Oryon CPU itself will bring "a huge leap in performance and energy efficiency". It adds that the combination of CPU and NPU will lead to a better device experience, indicating a growing trend towards generative AI.

It is worth mentioning that this series of products will coexist with, rather than replace, the existing Snapdragon computing platform layer.

To put it simply, if Snapdragon 8cx is targeted at Intel Core i5 (as Qualcomm claims), then Snapdragon X is designed to compete with Core i9.

Before that, although Qualcomm adjusted and evolved into Kryo through the core design of Arm, such as IP such as Cortex-X2, it is still the core of Cortex in essence.

Now, with its acquisition of Nuvia, Qualcomm has an architectural license to develop a chip from scratch, and all it needs to do is follow the same set of instructions, allowing Qualcomm to develop SoC like Apple.

Unfortunately, Qualcomm only launched the Snapdragon X brand today rather than a specific product. Qualcomm is expected to reveal the full face of this product at the Snapdragon summit in a few weeks' time, when CTOnews.com will bring you more reports.
