It is reported that Kia will build a second PBV plant in South Korea to specialize in the production of customized electric models.

CTOnews.com, October 15 (Xinhua) Kia plans to build a second PBV plant in South Korea (specializing in electric customized models), which is at risk of being disturbed by union workers, but aims to become a leader in the emerging field of customized cars by 2030, according to kedglobal.

Kia has proposed a plan to build a new factory for large PBV in wage negotiations with union workers as a measure to improve future business competitiveness, according to sources.

It is understood that Kia is preparing to set up a plant at its production base in Huacheng, 80km (50 miles) southwest of Seoul, with the goal of mass production of a large electric PBV codenamed LW from 2028.

Kia broke ground on its first PBV plant in South Korea in April with an investment of 1 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5.41 billion yuan). The plant, which plans to produce 150000 medium-sized models codenamed SW each year from the second half of 2025, is the world's first dedicated PBV plant and South Korea's first pure electric car plant.

Kia aims to sell more than 1.5 million PBV vehicles by 2030, making it the world's leading PBV. The company plans to build a complete line-up of PBV products ranging from small models to large models and customize them to meet a variety of needs.
