CTOnews.com, October 17 (Xinhua)-- A model X-wing starfighter used to shoot some of the best battle scenes in Star Wars: new Hope of 1977 has been successfully auctioned for $3135000 (CTOnews.com Note: about 22.917 million yuan currently), well above the opening price of $400000, the Business Times reported. The lot was collected and produced by veteran Hollywood model maker Greg Jein.

CTOnews.com noted that Jein died last year at the age of 76, and that his collection sold about $13.6 million (currently about 99.416 million yuan) at an event in Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Everyone from model makers to collectors and science fiction fans attended, making the event the most attended event in years, the auction house said.

Jein not only has a nearly half-century career in making miniature models, has been nominated for an Oscar and Emmy, but has also spent his life collecting costumes, props, scripts, art, photos and models from his favorite performances.

According to the auction house, a Star Wars stormtrooper costume sold for $645000 (currently about 4.715 million yuan), and a rare spacesuit from the 1968 film 2001: space Odyssey sold for $447000 (currently about 3.268 million yuan).

Jein also has a collection of more exotic items, such as the wig worn by William Shatner (William Shatner) as Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series, which sells for $13750 (currently about 101000 yuan).
