CTOnews.com, Oct. 17 (Xinhua)-- A Russian court today imposed a fine of 115 million rubles (currently about 8.636 million yuan) on videoconferencing software Zoom for "not opening an office locally," according to the Russian International News Agency. Zoom has not commented.

Foreign media pointed out that there are frequent conflicts between Russian and US technology companies in terms of content, censorship, data and local representation, which was further intensified after the conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out in February 2022.

Judge Timur Vakhrameyev was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying that the fine was equivalent to 1/10 of Zoom's income in Russia in 2022.

It is worth mentioning that last week Zoom was fined 1500 million rubles (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.127 million yuan) for failing to store Russian citizen data in Russia, and the court said Zoom had repeatedly violated the rules.

In addition, other companies, such as Google and Apple, have often been heavily fined in Russia over the past few years, while Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms have also been banned.
