Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Alejandro86 for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Oct. 30 (Reuters)-the Canadian union Unifor has begun a strike against all Stellantis factories in Canada, with more than 8200 members failing to reach an interim agreement in labor contract negotiations.

The union is seeking higher wages and pensions, and the negotiating team is giving priority to negotiations on electric vehicle conversion workers at the Stellantis Brampton assembly plant.

"We have made progress and we will continue to negotiate overnight," Unifor said in a statement. Stellantis said it was "extremely disappointed" with the strike action and would continue to bargain until an agreement was reached.

CTOnews.com noted that Unifor's negotiations in Canada were separate from those of the United Auto Workers (UAW). UAW and Stellantis reached a preliminary agreement on the new labor contract.

Unifor adopted a "bargaining" approach in its negotiations with Canadian automakers, reaching agreements with Ford and General Motors.

GM reached an agreement with Unifor shortly after 4300 workers at three Canadian plants went on strike, while the agreement with Ford came before the threat of a strike.

Unifor is also trying to address Stellantis-specific issues, including converted pensions and protection for people outsourced in parts distribution centers.

The Canadian business of the Detroit Big three is much smaller than its US business, but all have important factories in Canada.
