CTOnews.com, November 4, OWC recently launched a new OWC Drive Speed application for iPhone photography enthusiasts and photographers, specifically to test the transfer rate between iPhone and external storage devices.

Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models launched this year can be recorded directly to external storage devices when shooting ProRes videos.

CTOnews.com previously reported that users can select "4K / 60fps" in "Settings" > "camera" > "Video recording" and open Apple ProRes in "Settings" > "camera" > "format". By default, you can shoot 4K / 30fps ProRes video, while you can shoot 4K / 60fps ProRes after connecting to an external storage device through USB-C.

This app launched by OWC can measure and optimize the video transmission rate between iPhone and external drivers.

The application can be based on different recording variables such as format, code rate, and persistent files to ensure smooth and efficient file exchange and minimize frame loss in the process. It is designed to provide users with a degree of assurance about the storage capacity required for their projects.

If iPhone wants to run this free application, it needs to upgrade to iOS 17 and later. It requires macOS 14.0 Sonoma and models equipped with Apple M1 chips or higher to use on the Mac.

In addition, the application can also provide suggestions for improving video transmission when using compact storage solutions such as OWC Envoy Elektron portable SSD, OWC Envoy Pro mini storage, and OWC cables.
