British competition watchdog: Meta and Amazon have promised fair competition
CTOnews.com, Nov. 5 (Reuters)-British competition regulators have accepted promises from Meta and Amazon to help protect fair competition on their retail platforms.
The commitment marks the end of the Competition and Market Administration (CMA) investigation into the use of advertising data by Amazon Mall and Meta.
CMA said Amazon promised not to use the market data of competitors' sellers to gain an unfair advantage to ensure that sellers in third-party markets can compete on a level playing field.
Amazon said the commitment would ensure that independent sellers using the market had a fair chance to make their products appear on Buy Box.
CTOnews.com Note: Amazon Buy Box refers to the gold shopping cart, which is the most convenient place for buyers to buy when shopping. It plays a key role on Amazon platform and can increase sales opportunities.
Although Meta has signed a commitment to prevent "use" of advertiser data, it has led competitors advertising on its platform to "opt out" whose data has been used to improve Facebook Marketplace (similar to domestic Xianyu).
