TrendForce: 12.9in Apple iPad Pro with Mini LED display discontinued next year
CTOnews.com, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) according to a recent report from research firm TrendForce, Apple plans to stop all production of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED backlight in 2024.
Combined with previous revelations, Apple is preparing to launch an iPad Pro model with a 13-inch OLED screen next year. After the launch of the model, a similar 12.9in iPad Pro will not remain in the product lineup in the form of price reduction.
Shipments of Mini LED laptops are expected to fall by about 39 per cent year-on-year. At the same time, shipments of Mini LED tablets are expected to fall by about 15.6% year-on-year, making the two products the only two apps expected to decline because the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to stop production in 2024.
In December 2022, display industry analyst Ross Young said the 12.9-inch iPad Pro would be replaced by a slightly larger 13-inch OLED.
Subsequently, Bloomberg Mark Gurman also said that new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models will be released next year, with an OLED display, M3 chip and aluminum keyboard.
Compared with existing models with LCD panels, OLED technology will enable the next generation of iPad Pro to have higher brightness, contrast, color accuracy and lower power consumption.
Ross Young said Apple will use a very thin hybrid OLED display that combines flexible and rigid materials, which could make the next generation of iPad Pro designs lighter and thinner.
Existing iPad Pro models support ProMotion variable refresh rate, allowing adjustment between 24Hz and 120Hz, while the new OLED model may further lower the refresh rate to 10Hz or lower, thus helping to improve battery life (CTOnews.com Note: iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro can reach a minimum of 1Hz).
In addition to the two iPad Pro models mentioned above, Apple is expected to update the iPad Air, iPad mini and entry-level iPad in 2024, but none of these models will have an OLED screen, and most likely will only upgrade the chip.
