Will Quest 3 introduce eye and facial tracking modules? Meta CTO says it's hard.

CTOnews.com, Nov. 8-Meta's Quest Pro headset supports eye and face tracking features, while the latest Quest 3 does not, mainly because these features make headshow much more expensive. Quest 3 costs $499, while Quest Pro costs twice as much.

Eye and face tracking is also available through an accessory module. HTC has provided eye and face tracking modules for its independent Vive Focus 3 head display. Will Meta provide similar modules in the future?

CTOnews.com noted that Andrew Bosworth, Meta's CTO, answered this question in a recent Instagram question and answer. He said that there is no good way to achieve eye tracking or upper facial tracking through an accessory, and for eye tracking, it is difficult to provide lighting around the eyes and have cameras in multiple locations. The lower part of facial tracking is theoretically possible, but without the upper half of facial tracking and eye tracking, it is of little use. He stressed that it is very difficult for eye tracking to do outside the core module itself.

It is clear that Meta is committed to providing the public with the most affordable headlines, rather than niche solutions for niche products.
