A third source said Prime Minister Modi's office held a meeting with ministries on Monday to speed up the implementation of the new electric vehicle policy.

He added that the government was also analyzing the possible impact of the new policy on the Indian electric car market, as local carmakers often said that lower import taxes on electric vehicles could disrupt the market.
