CTOnews.com November 9, Sony today announced second-quarter results for fiscal 2023 and said in a conference call that it would maintain its target of shipping 25 million PlayStation 5 game consoles this year.

Sony said it would be an important milestone, with analysts and investors closely watching PS5's market performance. Earlier, Eric Lempel, senior vice president of Sony, revealed in an interview with CNBC that after shortages due to supply chain constraints in 2020 and 2021, PS5 will be fully stocked for the first time this year and will no longer be "in short supply."

At the same time, Sony also mentioned the weakness of its financial services and film divisions. It said it was caused by a strike by organizations such as the American Writers Association to protest against the use of AI to produce screenplays.

CTOnews.com reported earlier today that Sony's second-quarter net sales were 2.83 trillion yen (currently about 136.689 billion yuan), with an estimated 2.88 trillion yen, up 8% from a year earlier. Of this total, the net profit in the second quarter was 200.11 billion yen (currently about 9.665 billion yuan), with an estimated 221.4 billion yen, down 29% from the same period last year.

Total shipments of the PlayStation 5 in the three months to September 30, 2023 were 4.9 million, an increase of 1.6 million over the same period in the previous fiscal year. Cumulative shipments of the PlayStation 5 reached 46.6 million units.
