CTOnews.com, Nov. 10, Microsoft issued a press release today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Patch Tuesday and review the development of the event.

Microsoft launched its first Patch Tuesday campaign in October 2003, in which John Cable, Microsoft's vice president of project management and Windows services and delivery, reviewed the history of providing regular security updates to Windows.

The blog post said the concept of the patch Tuesday event dates back to January 15, 2002, when co-founder Bill Gates sent a memo to all employees of the company.

In the memo, Gates proposed trusted Computing (Trustworthy Computing) to encourage companies to create safer software products and better update methods.

Gates wrote in the memo:

We need to devise a new approach to significantly reduce the number of such problems in software created by Microsoft, its partners, and customers.

We need to let customers automatically get these patches, so that users do not have to worry too much, fundamentally ensure the security of the system.

In its blog post, Microsoft divides the development of Patch Tuesday into four stages: 2003-2007, 2008-2012, 2013-2017 and 2018-now. CTOnews.com attaches a link to the blog post, which interested users can click to read in depth.
